Happy Birthday, Robert.

“Two roads diverged in a wood, and I —
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.”

Today, I honor Robert Lee Frost, the poet who endorsed free thinking and a “forge your own path” philosophy for life in his poem The Road Not Taken. Or did he? A stanza or two, like any conversation, can easily be taken out of context–as literary scholars say it was in the lines above. On this 141st day of the poet’s birth, I encourage you to re-read the poet’s poem in its entirety and consider an alternative message or two that Frost may have been delivering. Or just read the poem for your enjoyment.

  • I reread the poem and really enjoyed. Didn’t wind up getting far in the analysis. I felt so good upon finishing the poem, to analyze was the part of my brain I don’t wish to enter today. Maybe tomorrow. Heading to Toni’s ceramics studio and enjoying the fuzzy place free of analysis.
